Safelite’s Story

The Safelite Long Island team supports local families through two annual SCO Family of Services programs that closely align with Safelite’s commitment to provide safety, stability, and a sense of belonging to the foster care community: our Holiday Wishlist and Back-to-School initiatives.

The Holiday Wishlist initiative supports families during the holiday season by fulfilling specific gift requests for children and caregivers, helping to ensure they can experience a joyful and meaningful holiday.

The Back-to-School initiative focuses on preparing children for a successful school year by providing essential items such as backpacks, school supplies, and age-appropriate resources.

Safelite supports both initiatives through generous donations, which help us purchase and distribute these much-needed items. Their support plays a vital role in helping us meet the needs of the families we serve during these meaningful times of the year.

Partnering with an organization that so powerfully uplifts communities reflects our shared belief that through fostering change together, everyone can overcome challenges with a clear road ahead.

Become an OPWDD Family Care Provider

An OPWDD Family Care Provider with an adult with developmental disabilitiesSCO is looking for caring families to provide support and guidance to adults with developmental disabilities. This can be a natural progression from the Foster Care System if the individual is developmentally disabled or referred by parents, schools, social workers or other professionals.

One of the most gratifying parts of being a Family Care Provider is knowing you are making a difference in the life of an individual with developmental disabilities. Your life is enriched by welcoming him/her into your home just as theirs is.

SCO Family of Services offers Family Care Providers:

  • Extensive support and training
  • Monthly Home Liaison visits
  • Quarterly nurse visits or as needed
  • 24-hour assistance

OPWDD Family Care Provider with an adult with developmental disabilities.Who Can Be a Family Care Provider?
Family Care providers can be married or single; men or women; owners or renters of a house, apartment or mobile home. Prior experience with individuals with developmental disabilities is not necessary. The most important requirement is the family’s willingness to provide the caring, understanding and security that an individual living in Family Care needs.
