Growing and Learning with Books

April 10, 2019 / SCO News

Student leaders from Middle College High School at LaGuardia Community College celebrated the joy of reading with over 25 youth and their families at “Growing and Learning with Books,” a special day designed to foster childhood literacy, in conjunction with SCO Family of Services.

The student leadership team and staff from Middle College High School participated in a month of literacy by collecting and distributing over 400 books to families and children served by SCO’s Foster Care practice in Jamaica, Queens.

The day was filled with student and staff-led activities including face painting, reading, interactive board games, and creating character puppets with SCO’s children and families. The event was open to all parents and children in SCO’s Family Foster Care practice.

For over 50 years, SCO’s Foster Care practice has been helping children and their families grow, heal and thrive. In addition to Family Foster Care, SCO provides Therapeutic Foster Care for children with behavioral health challenges and group homes for older teens and young moms with babies.

Thanks to the Middle College High School students and staff for their generous donations and visiting our children and families.
