Grant fuels expanded career pathways for NYC youth

Brooklyn NY, March 20, 2026 – SCO Family of Services, a leading provider of essential human services in New York City and Long Island, has been selected as a grant partner by the NBA Foundation to empower young adults through SCO’s Youth Workforce Initiative.

Building on SCO’s deep expertise serving system‑involved youth, the community-based workforce initiative will expand access to comprehensive career pathways for young people in New York City. The Youth Workforce Initiative enhances and complements SCO’s robust continuum of services that supports youth as they pursue their career, educational, and independent living goals. Services will be delivered at SCO’s Brooklyn Youth Center, a vital hub providing crisis intervention, counseling, mediation, and wraparound supports for at-risk, runaway and homeless, and system-involved youth.

While many young adults are eager to work, significant barriers often stand in their way, including missing identification, lack of credentials, unstable housing, and even the basic costs of transportation to interviews and training. This grant will directly address these challenges, helping young people build pathways to economic independence.

“Thanks to the NBA Foundation’s generous support, young people can overcome barriers and take meaningful first steps toward sustainable employment,” said Suzette Gordon, President & CEO of SCO Family of Services. “This partnership strengthens our work and amplifies the potential of youth who deserve every opportunity to succeed.”

“Through this grant round, we’re proud to support SCO Family of Services and their work in providing essential services throughout New York,” said NBA Foundation Executive Director Ruth Jurgensen. “SCO’s community-based programs lead to direct impact for youth as they pursue their career and educational goals.”

The NBA Foundation drives economic opportunity for under‑resourced youth ages 14–24 by funding programs that support successful transitions from school to meaningful employment, with a focus on organizations in NBA team markets. The Foundation invests in partnerships and grants that advance job readiness, skills training, job placement, and career development.

SCO Family of Services is honored to be one of 92 new grantees to partner with the NBA Foundation to invest in opportunity and future success for youth.
