SCO Students to Participate in Garden of Dreams’ STEM & Robotics Summer Workshop

June 30, 2020 / SCO News

Five teens from SCO will be participating in an exciting four-week summer STEM program thanks to Garden of Dreams. Teen Academy STEM & Robotics will give youth hands-on experience exploring STEM related fields.

Participants will be given an at-home assignment to be completed prior to each live Zoom session class. Moderator Karina Rojas will lead an open discussion with students to build, test, troubleshoot, and revise designs to improve robot performance.

Each week presents a new topic and a new challenge:

  • Trial and Error – Build a Bevel Bot and try to drive exactly 1 meter
  • Shifting Gears – Build a geared vehicle to investigate the impact of using different geared trains
  • Sliding Down a Slope – Build a titling platform to experimentally determine the coefficient of friction of different objects
  • Build a Drop Tower – Experimentally determine the gravitational constant
