SCO’s Young Adult Workforce Program Introduces Empowerment Workshops

January 22, 2021 / Independent Youth News

SCO’s Young Adult Workforce Program has introduced monthly Empowerment Workshops to prepare youth in the program for employment and educational opportunities as they transition into the community. The Young Adult Workforce Program helps young adults 18-21 years old currently and/or previously in NYC DOC custody prepare for the future by providing training and support, both before and after release.

The Empowerment Workshops highlight a different area each month. Previous topics include Women’s Entrepreneurship and Construction.

Workshop Facilitators lead interactive activities designed to promote:

Interview Preparedness by reviewing interview questions and other important information specific to the field

Employment Opportunities by networking with hiring agencies and industry professionals and providing links to internships and volunteer opportunities

Hiring Insight by providing clarity on the hiring process, sharing experiences and learning about certifications and other information

SCO hopes to expand the Empowerment Workshops to other programs in the future.
