Bringing the Heat with a Summer BBQ!

August 7, 2023 / Independent Youth News

Over 70 SCO youth in foster care and staff from our Brooklyn and Queens offices took a trip to Hempstead Lake State Park in West Hempstead for a summer BBQ.

It was a beautiful day packed with food and fun… music, team building events, a bounce house slide, water balloon activities and more.

After enjoying a scrumptious catered BBQ meal, an ice cream truck arrived to give out cones, sundaes, shakes and other cool treats.

There were lots of giveaways, too, including gift cards, bathing suits, and personal hygiene items.

The summer BBQ was an opportunity for everyone to socialize and have fun. It was a big hit with youth and staff alike and they’re hoping to have one next summer.

Thank you to the New York City Council for sponsoring such a wonderful event!
