Brayden’s Story

Meet Brayden — an active, kind, and talented high school student who is thriving through SCO’s Community Habilitation and Respite programs!

With support from his Community Habilitation Specialist, Brayden is building independence every single day. He’s learning to do his own laundry, prepare simple snacks, make purchases, improve his health routines, and is even learning to travel independently using the SCAT bus with support and guidance. His family, friends, and staff are incredibly proud… but most importantly, Brayden is proud of himself.

Brayden has explored so many exciting places with his Community Habilitation Specialist— beaches, museums, fairs, amusement parks, the aquarium — making memories everywhere he goes.

Through the Drop‑In Lounge Respite Program, he’s formed new friendships, found joy in games and activities, and grown more confident socially. With staff support, Brayden and his friends even plan outings together such as bowling, mall trips, lunch dates, and museum visits.

Brayden truly embodies the spirit of A World of Opportunity — discovering new skills, new friendships, and new experiences every day.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Art League of Long Island for their generous support of SCO Family of Services’ 2026 Back-to-School Supply Drive. The Art League graciously displayed our collection box in their gallery, providing members, visitors, and members of the community with an opportunity to give back and help local children prepare for a successful new school year.

Thanks to their partnership and the generosity of those who donated, SCO was able to collect much-needed school supplies that will directly benefit the children and families we serve. Their commitment to community engagement and helping others make a meaningful difference in the lives of our youth. Thank you, Art League of Long Island, for helping our students start the school year with confidence and the tools they need to succeed!

Meet Rose Marlowe

Rose Marlowe consistently demonstrates exceptional commitment and dedication in her role as a Community Habilitation staff member. She serves as a positive role model for the individuals she supports, always promoting independence, inclusion, and personal growth through her compassionate and person-centered approach.

Rose regularly goes above and beyond to enhance the quality of life of those she serves, including organizing and participating in annual camping trips that provide meaningful recreational opportunities and lasting memories for the individuals in her care.

In addition to her outstanding direct support, Rose maintains positive and professional communication with families and her supervisor, fostering strong relationships built on trust, respect, and collaboration. Her reliability, dedication, and genuine concern for the well-being of others make her a valued team member and an asset to the Community Habilitation program.

Rose’s unwavering commitment to the individuals she serves exemplifies the highest standards of quality support and person-centered care.
