For many years, the Nassau County Schools Facilities Association has stood beside SCO Family of Services as a steadfast partner, champion, and friend. Their generosity has touched countless young people across our programs, and their commitment continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.

The Association’s support goes far beyond financial contributions—though those have been invaluable. Each holiday season, they brighten our youth’s lives with thoughtful gifts that remind them they are seen, valued, and cared for. These moments of joy matter deeply, especially for young people who may be facing challenges no child should have to navigate alone.

A special acknowledgment goes to former President Mr. Jon Simpkins, whose leadership and personal dedication have played a major role in sustaining this partnership. Jon has been a true advocate for SCO, always showing up, always lending a hand, and always ensuring that the Association’s support remains strong year after year. His kindness and consistency have left a lasting impact on our community.

Safelite’s Story

The Safelite Long Island team supports local families through two annual SCO Family of Services programs that closely align with Safelite’s commitment to provide safety, stability, and a sense of belonging to the foster care community: our Holiday Wishlist and Back-to-School initiatives.

The Holiday Wishlist initiative supports families during the holiday season by fulfilling specific gift requests for children and caregivers, helping to ensure they can experience a joyful and meaningful holiday.

The Back-to-School initiative focuses on preparing children for a successful school year by providing essential items such as backpacks, school supplies, and age-appropriate resources.

Safelite supports both initiatives through generous donations, which help us purchase and distribute these much-needed items. Their support plays a vital role in helping us meet the needs of the families we serve during these meaningful times of the year.

Partnering with an organization that so powerfully uplifts communities reflects our shared belief that through fostering change together, everyone can overcome challenges with a clear road ahead.

Meet Tamika Watson

Housing Specialist

Tamika Watson

Tamika Watson has been a dedicated worker at Crotona Inn since 2017. Ms. Watson initially came to SCO as an Intake Worker but has worn many hats in her tenure. She was first promoted to Office Manager in 2022 and then to Housing Specialist in 2024.

As the only Housing Specialist, Ms. Watson has consistently increased our housing placements and has exceeded our placement targets for the past year. She takes the time to explain all aspects of housing resources and opportunities to our families as she guides them through the steps needed to secure safe and stable housing.

Ms. Watson works diligently to improve her knowledge of the city’s expectations and documentation to ensure housing packages go through the city system with no hiccups or rejections. She goes above and beyond her duties at Crotona Inn, providing support to clients and co-workers, particularly during emotionally charged situations.

Ms. Tamika Watson is highly deserving of staff recognition for her outstanding work and commitment to our families.
