SEA CLIFF, NY – SCO Family of Services, in partnership with Rocco’s Voice for Autism, celebrated the unveiling of four new communication boards at the Robert J. McMahon Children’s Center (RJMCC) in Sea Cliff, NY. These boards are designed to help children with intellectual and developmental disabilities communicate their needs and feelings, making the playground and surrounding areas on the RJMCC campus more inclusive.

“We’re grateful to Rocco’s Voice for Autism for providing our Robert J. McMahon Children’s Center with these communication boards that will give our youth the ability to express themselves and interact with their peers and staff,” said Suzette Gordon, SCO Family of Services President & CEO. “It will help them overcome communications barriers and they will benefit immensely.”

Town of Oyster Bay Councilwoman Vicki Walsh presented Rocco’s Voice for Autism founder Sonny Spagnuolo with a citation in recognition of his contribution to the community. He also received a special drawing made by one of the young residents of the RJMCC in appreciation of their generous gift to the Center. This installation marks the first time an agency on Long Island has incorporated these communication boards into their program.

The Robert J. McMahon Children’s Center serves children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities. RJMCC includes a Residential Treatment Center (RTC), which provides 24-hour nursing care, social services and a variety of therapies that help them unlock their potential and become as independent as their abilities allow. Residents of RJMCC attend the Tyree Learning Center, a New York State certified special education school designed to accommodate the children’s needs.
