SCO’s Jennifer Fuchs on OMH Peer Support Panel

October 26, 2023 / Independent Youth News

In honor of Peer Support Celebration Day on October 19th, the NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH) held a peer support Zoom event. SCO’s Jennifer Fuchs, Peer Engagement Coordinator of our High Fidelity Wraparound and Children and Family Treatment Support Services (CFTSS) programs, participated on the OMH panel, serving as the Family Peer Support representative. The panel consisted of a representative from each peer role in OMH – Adult Peer Support, Youth Peer Support, and Family Peer Support. Over one hundred colleagues from agencies throughout New York were in attendance.

The panel discussed a variety of topics related to their roles: what brought each of them to their peer support roles, the expansion of peer services, peer support leadership, and areas of advocacy that are most needed today.

Global Peer Support Celebration Day (GPSCD) is an annual celebration recognizing peer supporters and their work in helping peers with mental health, addictions, and/or trauma-related challenges move along the continuum of recovery and inclusion into their communities. This worldwide event takes place every year on the third Thursday in October.
